Our organist and choir director is the cheerful and talented Robert Dominy Mulford, who joined the church in December 2001. Robert's original home is East Hampton, NY, where he served as organist for 45 years in the Methodist Church and 36 years in the Presbyterian Church. In addition, he has played at seven other churches for a total of 69 years. He began playing at the age of 12 and was the organist and director of the Methodist Church at the age of 15, with an 18-member choir.
In 1946, Robert entered the military and served in the European theatre, Battle of the Bulge until 1946. After returning home, Robert entered Westminster Choir College at Princeton, NJ where he met his wife Mary Helen, who was also a church organist. They were married in September 1948. Robert held two positions, one at the Presbyterian Church at 9:30 AM and the other at the Methodist Church at11:00 AM. In addition, he became part time organist at the Catholic Church, playing the 1:15 PM mass and the 12:30 PM mass on Sunday. He held these positions for seven years until moving here.
Robert also has taken seven years of private organ lessons from Charlotte Rogers Smith of Bridgehampton, NY. He was also Grand Organist of the Masonic Lodge on the East End of Long Island, consisting of 17 lodges.
Robert has played in nine different churches before moving here making thishis10th. He has served under 18 clergy and says:
"God gave me my musical talent and I am going to praise him with it as long as I am able. I am dedicated to my position and always will be.
Our pianist, Muriel Marchessault, accompanies Bob during most Sunday morning worship services. She also fills in as choir director from time to time so that Bob can take well deserved vacations.
We have been blessed to have these two talented musicians in our congregation.
